Building a Connected Outdoor Economy Across Virginia’s Mountain Regions

VA MTNS Outdoor Collective is a growing network of outdoor-focused businesses, organizations, and advocates working to strengthen the outdoor economy across Virginia’s mountain and Appalachian regions. We exist to connect people, align efforts, and elevate the role outdoor recreation plays in community vitality, workforce development, and regional identity.

Built Together, Region by Region

Outdoor recreation in Virginia’s mountain regions succeeds when people work across geographic, organizational, and sector-based boundaries. Thanks in part to generous support from the Roanoke Outside Foundation, VA MTNS Outdoor Collective exists to support collaboration, bringing businesses and partners together to share insight, reduce duplication, and strengthen regional capacity. We focus on the connective tissue: relationships, information, and coordination that help good work travel farther and last longer.

Meet Our Members

A Growing Community of Practice

VA MTNS Outdoor Collective brings together people and organizations who are actively shaping the outdoor economy in Virginia’s mountain regions. Our members represent a wide range of perspectives, from small businesses and nonprofits to destination partners and community organizations, all connected by a shared interest in outdoor recreation and place-based economic development. What unites the Collective isn’t scale or sector, but a willingness to engage, collaborate, and learn together.

Shared Values, Diverse Work

VA MTNS Outdoor Collective is built around a set of shared values: collaboration over competition, stewardship over short-term gain, and regional thinking over isolated efforts. Our members come from different corners of the outdoor economy, but they share a commitment to strengthening communities through outdoor recreation.
